Frank was so excited (and nervous) to play in his first Texas Amateur! This year is so happens it was at our home course, Bent Tree Country Club. That was super convenient as no travel was involved and Frank knows everything about the course and club. It was pretty cool seeing all of the TGA (Texas Golf Association) gear go up, the white picket fence around the driving range, the huge scoreboard/leaderboard, etc. It was a real tournament where the best golfers in Texas came to see who would be champion and qualify for the US Open. One of our very good friends, Homero, offered to be his caddy on the second and third day (due to heavy rain there were 3 instead of 4 days of golf). Frank had a fantastic first day, shooting -2, with a score of 69, which left him tied in 7th place out of 142 golfers. It was a hot day of him walking the course using his pull cart for his clubs. His feet were killing him and he was physically beat! This meant day 2 was even harder for him, as he was feeling the pains from the day before. He was a little emotionally beat down to start the 3rd day as he was so tired and realized he was not in the best shape to be walking the course. I find it tiring playing 18 holes when we ride in a golf cart, so playing 18 holes 3-4 days in a row and walking the course would be a real doozy. While Frank wasn't playing the best golf of his life, he was playing well still as he competed with golfers who ARE accustomed to walking the course every day. It was a wake-up call for sure on what he has to do to be prepared in the future so he can play his best golf. He finished in 41st place with 8 over par for the 3 days, which is still some very good golf! And he had a great time competing against a field of real talent with their golf game, something that he doesn't get to do often! We have high hopes he will play in many more Texas Amateur tournaments. :)
